We currently have 66 buddies in school. They are children from Years 5 and 6 who volunteer their lunch time on a rota basis to help in key areas around the school.
Their duties include helping in both the Nursery and Reception, playing games and supporting our younger pupils. Also, buddies offer help with drinks and cutlery in the Infant canteen. In the Infant and Junior yards buddies organise and lead popular games or activities and encourage children to get involved.
In Year 6 we have 30 children who are in their second year of being a buddy, these children have recently undergone St. John's Ambulance First Aid training tailored for primary age children.
The experience a children can gain from volunteering as a 'buddy' in school is truly invaluable giving an immense boost to their self-confidence and self-esteem. The 'life skills' gained while 'buddying' will follow them through to secondary school. Well done to all of them !
