Year 2 Newsletter September 2017

A very warm welcome to Year 2 and the new academic year!

Home Reading

We want to encourage all our children to enjoy and engage with books and reading and we ask you to support this process through our Home Reading Scheme. Children have the opportunity to use books from school OR home and their progress needs to be recorded in their Home Reading Record Book. The reading record will be monitored in school each week so we will need Reading Record Books to be returned to school every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Parents’ Evening remains an essential part of our work. At these meetings we review pupil progress and set targets for future learning. Parents’ Evening is run on an appointment system and a letter will be sent home with a list of times that you will be able to choose from. Our next Parents’ Evenings are Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th October 2017. Further details will follow nearer the time.

We have P.E. every Tuesday. The children should have a white T-shirt, black/navy shorts and a pair of pumps (football kits are not allowed). Trainers can also be included for outdoor sports. Please make sure that PE kits are in a bag with your child’s name on, and all items are clearly named. Please remember that our school policy clearly states no jewellery, for safety reasons.

In Year 2 the children are invited to create their own project on Liverpool. Children can include information, pictures and models to support their project. We are going to hold a Liver bird competition whereby children have to design their own Liver bird. More details about this will follow.

Children will get regular spellings sent home on a Friday and they will be tested in different way the following Friday. You will also receive a reminder of your child’s login details for the Abacus active learn homework online.
