Year 4 Summer 1 Topic Web: Near, Far and FArTHER.

Music: Children will continue their wider opportunities with Ms Hough on Wednesday mornings. They will be performing at our summer festival – details to follow.

R.E: Children will explore the idea of commitment, with a focus on some inspirational figures. We will also study Judaism, with a trip to our local synagogue.

P.E: PE will continue to be on Wednesdays with a focus on orienteering.

Art / DT: Children will be creating an Iron Man based on our class text and science topics. We will be exploring the work of Banksy and producing our own graffiti.

Geography: Children will use atlases, globes and world maps to explore the big question ‘Where in the world are we?’ We will be comparing our school locality to our link school in Grange over Sands.

Science: This term we are having a science week. We will focus on electricity, safety aspects and children will be making circuits. During the following half term the science focus is healthy eating, looking at digestion and teeth.

Computing: Children will continue with coding and will be using Power point to create their own history presentation.

History: Linked to our geography we will be exploring Liverpool’s history and producing a Power point using our computing skills.

English: In English we will start with a spelling focus and move on to non-chronological reports in the form of a computer game review. We will then explore different forms of poetry. The following half term we will be exploring our class text FArTHER by Grahame Baker-Smith. We are excited about seeing the creative writing the children produce.

Maths: In Maths we will continue working on the four written methods. The children will explore concepts such as time, perimeter and fractions. We would like the children to continue to learn their times tables at home, this is so important to every aspect of maths (children should be confident up to 12 x 12 by the end of year 4). Children are encouraged to try the online Active learn activities to reinforce what we’ve done in school.

School Trip: We will be visiting the Synagogue in Toxteth as part of our RE. The cost of this trip will be covered by school.

PSHE: We are having a ‘Healthy living week’ this term where children will look at different aspects of a healthy lifestyle. We will continue looking at this through our science unit.
