Year 2 Newsletter Spring 2, 2019

Home Reading

We want to encourage all our children to enjoy and engage with books and reading and we ask you to support this process through our Home Reading Scheme. Children have the opportunity to use books from school OR home and their progress needs to be recorded in their Home Reading Record Book. The reading record will be monitored in school each week as often as possible so we will need Reading Record Books to be returned to school every Tuesday and Friday. *The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go. *

P.E

We have P.E. on Monday afternoons. The children should have a white T-shirt, black/navy shorts and a pair of pumps (football kits are not allowed). The children should be changing their clothes for PE now so something comfortable should be provided for them. Trainers can also be included for outdoor sports. Please make sure that PE kits are in a bag and all items are clearly named. (Just a reminder that our school policy clearly states no jewellery, for safety reasons).

Curriculum

Our Creative Curriculum topic for this half of the Spring Term is Into the Woods. We are using one of the final books written by Roald Dahl titled ‘The Min Pins’. Our science topic about growing plants will fit in well with this text.

In Literacy we will be using the story to write our own ‘tales of fear’. The children will learn to write with suspense and mystery and make effective use of adjectives and verbs in their descriptions. We will make our writing come to life in the same way Roald Dahl did.

In Maths we will be becoming fluent with our multiplication and division facts as well as learning fractions of shape and quantity. The children will be accessing more problem solving and reasoning tasks this half term applied to previous units in Maths.

Homework

We have previously sent home the Year 2 Statutory spellings to practise with your child. We will be focusing on these in class as well as some of the common Year 2 spelling rules e.g. soft c (space) and -j at the end of a word (cage/badge).

Teachers & Support Staff

Miss Nelson (2N) and Miss Brackenridge (2B) are the teachers working in Year 2. Mrs Burchardt and Mrs Peers are our Learning Support Assistants.

Thank you for all your support. Let’s have a great second half term!
