Home Reading

We want to encourage all our children to enjoy and engage with books and reading and we ask you to support this process through our Home Reading Scheme. Children have the opportunity to use books from school OR home and their progress needs to be recorded in their Home Reading Record Book. The reading record will be monitored in school each week so we will need Reading Record Books to be returned to school every Tuesday and Friday. *The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go. *

P.E

We have P.E. on Mondays. The children should have a white T-shirt, black/navy shorts and a pair of pumps (football kits are not allowed). Trainers can also be included for outdoor sports. Please make sure that PE kits are in a bag and all items are clearly named. (Just a reminder that our school policy clearly states no jewellery, for safety reasons). If your child’s kit has gone missing, whilst we will do our best to find it, could you please provide comfortable clothing for them to get changed into for their session.

Curriculum

Our Creative Curriculum topic for this half of the Spring Term is ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. We will be learning all about the history of chocolate including the production and manufacturing aspect of it. This will include learning about Fair Trade.

In Literacy we will be using the story ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, taking extracts of the text and getting to know the characters in depth to write character descriptions. We will also use the information about the history of chocolate to write explanation texts to others.

In Maths we will improve our knowledge of place value by adding and subtracting two digit numbers including bridging the gap across tens numbers. We will work on units of measurement including the time and learn the properties of 3D shapes.

Homework

We will send home spellings throughout the term. These spellings will either be the Year 2 Statutory spellings or Year 2 spelling rules that are being reinforced in class.

Teachers & Support Staff

Miss Nelson (2N) and Miss Brackenridge (2B) are the teachers working in Year 2. Miss Hoynes and Mrs Peers are our Learning Support Assistants.

Thank you for all your support. Let’s have a brilliant new year!
