St. Michael in the Hamlet Nursery Newsletter
Spring 1 2019.
A big, warm welcome to all the new children who have joined us this term! We hope your time with us will be a happy one. We now have two Key groups, Mrs Crook’s Turtles and Mrs Fortune’s Foxes. Please feel free to speak to your child’s keyworker at the beginning or end of the session.
Many thanks to everyone for signing their child in at the beginning of each session. As you know we ask you to indicate who will pick your child up at the end of the session. If anything changes during that session and the designated person is no longer able to collect your child, could you please telephone the office to let us know the name of the adult who will pick your child up.
Our main this term topic is ‘Artists and their work.’ If you have any particular favourites please do send them into school for us to enjoy. We will be exploring a variety of paintings and techniques. We will be choosing which pictures we prefer and explaining what we like about them.
As part of our ‘Talk for Writing’ initiative we are studying the Norwegian Tale of ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff.’ We will retell the story using small world resources and plan to look at Bridges and other types of construction. It would be lovely to make some simple tabard style costumes for the three goats and we would appreciate donations of any spare furry material you may have at home or sewing skills you could tell us about!
We are still encouraging our children to be as independent as possible by fastening their coats, changing their shoes and being responsible for their own possessions. We would be grateful if you would ensure that all hats, scarves and gloves are clearly named. Can I kindly ask parents to leave toys at home as we are worried that they could get lost or damaged?
During the cold weather we will continue to play outside but for a shorter period of time so please do send your child’s wellies in with them and a suitable coat. It would be very helpful if your child could attend nursery with suitable shoes that do not have laces to help their independence.
This term Stay and Play will be on Thursday 7th February 2019. It is a great opportunity for parents to speak with staff about their children. We can discuss progress and any concerns you may have.
