A very warm welcome back and a Happy New Year 2017! We hope you have had a wonderful Christmas and a nice relaxing break. Read on to find out about the exciting activities we have planned over the next six weeks.
Our creative curriculum topic for next half term is ‘Traditional Tales’. In Literacy, we will be looking at traditional story structures and story characters and reading different versions of the stories and comparing. Children will create their own version, by adapting another version and making it personal.
In Maths we will be recognising doubling as addition, we will begin to recognise coins of different values and order coins according to their value as well as find totals for sets of coins. We will also be focusing on ‘weight’ and ‘ordinal numbers’.
Our Science focus this term will be ‘Materials’. Children will identify and name a variety of everyday materials, including wood, plastic, glass, metal, water and rock. Children will be carrying out a range of practical activities and will investigate the best material for a particular purpose, with links made to our traditional tale theme.
This term our PE sessions are Fridays. The children should have a white T-shirt, black/navy shorts and a pair of pumps (football kits are not allowed) Please make sure that PE kits are in a bag and all items are clearly named. (Just a reminder that our school policy clearly states no jewellery, for safety reasons).
We want to continue to encourage all our children to enjoy and engage with books and reading and we ask you to continue to support this process. Our home reading scheme is devised to encourage your child to read independently, with fluency, to build their confidence and self-esteem. If your child has a lot of difficulty reading their book and is unable to tell you about it, please let us know. Children have the opportunity to use books from school OR home and their progress needs to be recorded in their Home Reading Record Book. The reading record will continue to be monitored in school each week. Please return these, with your child’s reading book every Tuesday and Friday.
Thank you for all your support with the Spelling homework. Please continue to support your child each week with this. We will continue to add different games for the children to access for their maths and literacy online homework. We will continue to monitor this each week.
