Safety Cadets : National Online-Safety scheme (Formerly eCadets)
We know that children will often seek out the support and advice from friends when they have a question or problem. During 2014 we established an online-safety crew, made up of pupils from across the school, who have helped us help each other to stay safe when online. Later that year our school joined a network of over 800 pupils across England and Wales, namely the Safety Cadets.
The Safety Cadet Scheme trains a group of pupils so that their classmates can go to them with questions about the internet, online games and social media. The team of Safety Cadets are also responsible for promoting online safety behaviours and best practice across the school and community, based on regular challenges. The Safety Cadets can direct any pupil questions to a team of online-safety specialists from the the Safety Cadet HQ using a secure instant messenger and they provide the answer, which helps to take the pressure off them and ensure the right knowledge is being communicated. The online-safety team includes a former senior police officer, teachers, and researchers.
