St. Michael in the Hamlet Nursery Newsletter
Spring 2, 2019.
Welcome back to nursery! Our new children are settling in well and quickly becoming part of the family. Just to remind you we have two keyworker groups in the nursery; Turtles and Foxes. Please feel free to speak to your child’s keyworker at the beginning or end of the session.
As part of our ‘Talking for Writing’ initiative we are studying ‘Chicken Licken’ and would greatly appreciate any photographs, pictures, books or other resources that might complement this topic. The children love to show their friends things that they have been doing at home. Chicken Licken lends itself well to hearing and creating rhyming words. We have begun to make up rhyming names for the children’s names and also some of the parent’s names. Please do continue this at home for all of the names in your house.
We are also thinking about the people who help us this term and would love to have any willing family members in the caring, help professions to come into nursery to speak to the children about their job.
Hopefully we will begin to see more of the sun during outside time this term however it is good to have wellies available just in case! We are still encouraging our children to be as independent as possible by fastening their coats and being responsible for their own possessions. We would be grateful if you would ensure that all coats, jumpers and cardigans are clearly named. Also can I please ask that children come to nursery in shoes that they can fasten by themselves.
Thank you to all of our parents who remember daily to help their child to write their name. We will continue to practise this skill as our children are expected to be able to write at least their first name when they enter their Reception year.
You should have been given a ‘Helping your child learn at home with Maths’ sheet so please ask us if you haven’t. This has lots of ideas of how to encourage counting and mathematical language with your children.
We are learning to recognise the letters/sounds SATPIN and the children have little songs to sing about each one. Do see which letters they can spot in the environment.
This term Stay and Play will be on Wednesday 27th March. It is a great opportunity for parents to speak with staff about their children. We can discuss progress and any concerns you may have. Morning children 9 – 10 a.m.
