Parent/Carer Questionnaire Feedback Analysis - Academic Year 2015-16

Thank you to our families that completed the questionnaires. Our questionnaire is designed by Ofsted, which is why the language is more formal than we would ordinarily use, but it does help us ensure that our measurement of parental satisfaction is consistent.

What do parents feel is working well at St Michael in the Hamlet.

“There is a welcoming and inclusive community feel… the children are happy and enjoy school.”

“The creative curriculum has an emphasis on making learning fun and offering new experiences.”

“Children’s achievements, and their growing confidence are celebrated.”

“It is a safe school environment… the Buddy system supports the children at playtimes too.”

“School staff are approachable and supportive.”

“After school clubs are free and Breakfast Club is good value.”

What do parents have questions about?

1) Safety
Some families using Breakfast and After school club are turning their vehicles and parking without considering other families. Please can everyone do their best to keep all our children safe?

2) Homework
We have moved away from worksheets, and an expectation that these will be marked by staff. We have invested in Abacus for those families who would like more structure in what to do with their child. Class newsletters and the class pages on the website also give information about the topics covered by each class.

3) Sharing Progress
Progress is no longer measured in Levels. Children’s attainment is measured as in their working within, above or below their age related expectations.
At the Autumn and Spring parent evening you meet with your child’s class teacher to discuss where your child’s strengths and areas to work on are, and how they are progressing. In the Summer report your child’s attainment, compared to National age related expectations is noted, and you have an opportunity to meet with your child’s class teacher to discuss this.
Staff are on the yard each morning and at the end of the day to pass on messages and to arrange a convenient time for a longer chat if necessary. Mrs Larsen and Mrs Richards are available every day if you want to talk about a non-academic worry.

4) Spanish
All staff reinforce the Spanish sessions led by Ana during the week. We will begin to use more Spanish signs around school.

5) Website
The website is as up to date as we can make it.  Newsletters and Parent mail still prove to be the most successful ways to communicate. You can phone school to arrange a time for a chat if you can’t catch us at the start and end of the day.  We will always give as much notice for events as we can and are also looking into using ‘Twitter’ to help us do this too.

6) Second Hand Uniform
We will begin running a second hand uniform ‘table’ on the Junior yard at the end of each half term. Families can either swap items for a larger size or buy a particular item. We will collect any other donations of good quality school uniform on designated days, as we have limited room to store clothing.

St Michael in the Hamlet works hard to meet the needs of the children their families and the community and your feedback is very important to the Leadership team and Governing Body to enable us to do so. Thank you to all those families who responded, particularly for all the lovely positive comments which we have shared with staff. The Leadership Team will discuss all the areas above to look for ways to make our school more effective and you should shortly see the ways we are working to address them.
