Autumn 2 Newsletter

Welcome back to Year 4!

We hope you had a lovely half term. It’s great to see the children back in class, well done to those who brought their homework back. Please send in any finished homework if you haven’t done so already.

We will continue to study The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. The focus will be on comprehension skills and improving the children’s writing. The text has strong cross-curricular links with Geography, Science and DT. Please encourage your child to read at home regularly. They have the opportunity to choose books from school OR home as well as interacting with books online via our exciting ‘Bug Club’. Their progress needs to be recorded in their Home Reading Record Book and this will be monitored in school.

During the Autumn term we will be building on the children’s knowledge of number. The children must continue to work on their times table knowledge, so please make sure you practise with them at home. We will begin times table tests this half term. The first set will be given on Friday 2nd November and will be tested the following Friday 9th November.

Well done everyone who’s had a go at the maths activities on the Active learn website. We will continue to update these so keep going!

Our topic, ‘Into the Unknown’, has strong links to geography, art, DT, science and RE .

Science – Dangers to living things; Geography- IOS maps and symbols;

Art – observational drawing, collage and printing; DT – designing and making a 3D package

RE – worship across the six main religions and Christmas around the world.

We would love the children to do a project based on our topic. Be as creative as you can! We will share projects week beginning 10th December so please make sure they are in by then.

Important dates: Fundraising film night Wednesday 14th November

We have P.E. every Wednesday. The children should have a white t-shirt, black shorts and a pair of pumps. Training shoes are allowed for outdoor sports. Please make sure that P.E. kits are in a bag and all items are clearly named.

We are fortunate to have Brass lessons every Wednesday in Year 4 as part of Wider Opportunities. It is compulsory that your child brings their instrument to school every Wednesday!

If you have any queries or worries, contact us via the Junior Office. Please inform us if your child is being picked up by an adult at the end of the school day who is not on the list.

Thank you for your continued support.
