Year 2 Newsletter Autumn 2 2018
We want to encourage all our children to enjoy and engage with books and reading and we ask you to support this process through our Home Reading Scheme. Children have the opportunity to use books from school OR home and their progress needs to be recorded in their Home Reading Record Book. The reading record will be monitored in school each week so we will need Reading Record Books to be returned to school every Tuesday and Friday. *The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go. *
We have P.E. on Mondays. The children should have a white T-shirt, black/navy shorts and a pair of pumps (football kits are not allowed). Trainers can also be included for outdoor sports. Please make sure that PE kits are in a bag and all items are clearly named. (Just a reminder that our school policy clearly states no jewellery, for safety reasons).
Our Creative Curriculum topic for this half of the Autumn Term is ‘Ends of the Earth.’ We will be learning all about continents and oceans with a focus on the polar regions. We will find out about wildlife in different habitats including the conservation of our planet.
In Literacy we will be using the story The Journey Home, whose main character is a Polar Bear. The children will be learning about setting descriptions and then all about non-chronological reports.
In Maths we will improve our knowledge of place value by adding and subtraction 10 as well as our mental addition and subtraction strategies. The children will continue to develop their problem solving through logic and reasoning tasks.
We will send home spellings throughout the term. These spellings will either be the Year 2 Statutory spellings or Year 2 spelling rules that will be reinforced in class.
Miss Nelson (2N) and Miss Brackenridge (2B) are the teachers working in Year 2. Mrs Burchardt and Mrs Peers are our Learning Support Assistants.
Thank you for all your support. Let’s have a great second half term!
