Year 1 Newsletter Autumn 2, 2017
Our creative curriculum topic for this half term is ‘Pirates’. Please see overleaf for our curriculum map to find out all about the exciting things we will be doing this half term.
This term our PE sessions are Tuesdays. The children should have a white T-shirt, black/navy shorts and a pair of pumps (football kits are not allowed) Please make sure that PE kits are in a bag and all items are clearly named. (Just a reminder that our school policy clearly states no jewellery, for safety reasons).
We want to continue to encourage all our children to enjoy and engage with books and reading and we ask you to continue to support this process. Our home reading scheme is devised to encourage your child to read independently, with fluency, to build their confidence and self-esteem. If your child has a lot of difficulty reading their book and is unable to tell you about it, please let us know. Children have the opportunity to use books from school OR home and their progress needs to be recorded in their Home Reading Record Book. The reading record will continue to be monitored in school each week. Please return these, with your child’s reading book every Tuesday and Friday.
In Year 1 the children have access to our online maths and literacy homework scheme; Active learn. Children will be able to access their individual accounts at home via the internet, we will allocate children games and activities that will link with our weekly learning in class. We will also send out a list of spellings each Friday for the children to practise ready for a test every
Practice and preparation for our Christmas show will shortly commence! You will be notified soon regarding the details of class costumes and songs.
Pirate day will be on Wednesday 8th November, your child is invited to come into school dressed as a Pirate; this could be as simple as face paint, making a pirate hat or bandana.
