Year 3 Newsletter Autumn 2 2017
Please encourage your child to continue to read at home regularly. Home readers should be returned to school at least once a week so that we can ensure your child has a new book to read as soon as possible. In literacy we are looking at Play Scripts. Children will explore different characters and the structure of different plays. We are also exploring performance poetry. Year 3 will look at a variety of poems to see how emotions and tone can be expressed in poetry.
Please inform us if your child is being picked up by an adult at the end of the school day, who are not on the list of people who can collect your child. All Year 3 pupils need the class teacher to say they can go to the person who has come to pick them up at the end of the day.
We have Physical Education on a Thursday afternoon. The children should have a white T-shirt, black/navy shorts and a pair of pumps, (football kits are not allowed). Trainers can also be included for outdoor sports. Please make sure your child keeps their PE kit in school. If you are experiencing getting any items of kit please let us know. This half term Year 3 will be doing gymnastics. The Year 3 afterschool clubs are: Science Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) club, art and athletics.
Creative Curriculum topic for Autumn 2 is ‘The Art Gallery.’ We will be learning about Vincent van Gogh and other artist and their artistic styles. The children will continue to develop their knowledge and understanding of their rights and responsibilities. In literacy we are looking at play scripts particularly how they are presented along with the use of direct speech. Performance poetry is also explored this half term. In maths we will be continuing to use addition and subtraction strategies and inverse operations alongside multiplication and division. The children will also be exploring fractions of shapes and amounts. In Geography will be learning about the Mediterranean.
In Year 3 the children are invited to create their own project about our topic this could be their very own painting or a fact file about an impressionist artist. Children will be given a reminder in class on how to access the online homework. All children will be given a copy of their login details. We will continue to send home spellings at the start of the half term linked to the Year 3 National Curriculum wordlist.
As part of our curriculum we will be taking part in the Christmas carol concert at the local church. The children will also be learning about, ‘What do people believe about God?’ Also the children will be learning about the meaning of Christingle. Each child will then make their own Christingle to take to the school carol service.
