Autumn 2

Welcome to Year 4!

A warm welcome from all the staff in Year 4! We hope you had a lovely Autumn break. We have a full, fun-packed year prepared and are looking forward to sharing with you the work your children will produce.

If you have any queries or worries, contact us via the Junior Office. Please inform us if your child is being picked up by an adult at the end of the school day who is not on the list.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs Jones, Mrs Burch and Miss Clements

Incepta Nova (New Beginnings)

English: We are going to be writing our own spooky stories and making a pod cast including lots of sound effects. We will be looking at non-fiction as part of our topic including newspapers and biographies. Please encourage your child to read at home regularly. They have the opportunity to choose books from school OR home as well as interacting with books online via our exciting ‘Bug Club’. Their progress needs to be recorded in their Home Reading Record Book and this will be monitored in school.

Maths: During the Autumn term we will continue our focus on number (+, - , x and ÷). We will also be finding out about measurement (cm, m and time). Time can be a tricky concept so we would encourage you to talk to your children about time as much as possible at home. We will continue with our times tables tests so please keep practising with your child.

Topic: This term our topic is Incepta Nova (New Beginnings). We will be finding out about the Romans and their legacy. Our exciting trip to Chester will take place on Tuesday 28th November. We would love the children to do a project based on our topic. Be as creative as you can! We will share projects week beginning 18th December so please make sure they are in by then.

Science: Our science unit is Sound this half term. We will be finding out all about how sound is made and how our ears work.

R.E: In RE this term we are finishing off our work on pilgrimage in the sixth main faiths and will be exploring how Christmas is celebrated around the world.

We have P.E. every Wednesday. The children should have a white t-shirt, black shorts and a pair of pumps. Training shoes are allowed for outdoor sports. Please make sure that P.E. kits are in a bag and all items are clearly named.

Brass Lessons: We are fortunate to have Brass lessons every Wednesday in Year 4 as part of Wider Opportunities. It is compulsory that your child brings their instrument to school every Wednesday!
