Autumn 1

Curriculum

Our Creative Curriculum topic for this half of the Autumn term is ‘My World’. We will be investigating our local area, identifying the use of different buildings and interviewing a past pupil, to find out about changes in the school. In science we will be investigating our senses and naming and labeling parts of the body. As part of our topic, we will be going for a walk around ‘The Hamlet’. We will also be finding out about the history of toys, and holding a special day when all our children are invited to bring a special teddy or cuddly toy into school. More details to follow.

Home Reading

We want to encourage all our children to enjoy and engage with books and reading and we ask you to support this process through our Home Reading Scheme. Children have the opportunity to use books from school or home and their progress needs to be recorded in their new Home Reading Record Book. The reading record will be monitored in school every Tuesday and Friday, please make sure you return books and records then. Your child’s first book will be sent home on Friday 16th September.

P.E.

We have P.E on Fridays. The children should have a white T-Shirt, black or navy shorts and a pair of pumps, all labelled with their name, in a labelled bag. Please remember that the only items of jewellery allowed are plain stud earrings, for safety reasons.

Homework

In Year 1 the children have access to our online maths and literacy homework scheme; Active learn. Children will be able to access their individual accounts at home via the internet, we will allocate children games and activities that will link with our weekly learning in class.

Staff

Miss Tsai (1T) and Miss Powell (1P) are the teachers working in Year 1. Miss Harker (1T), Miss Hammond (1P) and Mrs. Roberts are our Learning Support Assistants. The children will also be working with Mr Lawrenson our P.E. specialist, Mrs Owen our Outdoor School Leader.

We look forward to working with you, and having an exciting, successful year.
